About Me
From Public Health to Paintbrush
I’m Nancy Okang, a self-taught Ghanaian open-impressionist whose journey began not in a studio, but in homes in my community. As a volunteer public educator in Prampram, I counseled young girls, young women, and expectant mothers, ran life-skills workshops with underprivileged girls, and I witnessed firsthand how education can transform lives. Alongside these roles, I grappled with Borderline Personality traits—an emotional rollercoaster that left me searching for an outlet as vivid as my inner world.
My first paintings were born on a deck overlooking the ocean from home at dusk, when the weight of constant caregiving and personal upheaval felt too heavy for words. It was in those moments that animation’s power to tell stories without language inspired me: I picked up a brush and began to layer color like frames in a film, each stroke a heartbeat, each canvas a scene in a larger story - the world around me, through my eyes.
Rooted in Ghanaian Heritage
Travel across Accra’s bustling markets and coastal villages has shaped my palette and compositions. I draw on traditional motifs—then blend them with insights gleaned from my own life’s crossings. Working with just five carefully chosen hues on eco-friendly paper, cardstock, or canvas, I honor both simplicity and sustainability, crafting paintings that celebrate African identity and nature’s interconnectivity.
Healing Through Color, Teaching Through Art
Living with Borderline traits meant every sky felt seismic, every color felt like an emotional earthquake. Open Impressionism became my refuge—brushwork placed side by side where raw feeling finally found form. Today, I invite collectors to step into these layers of emotion, heritage, and hope.
Beyond the canvas, I remain committed to authenticity and social impact. Every original piece and limited print is accompanied by a Certificate of Origin, transparent sourcing details, and heartfelt testimonials from collectors around the world. Proceeds from my studio fuel my mentorship program teaching underprivileged young girls in Prampram literacy, critical thinking and life skills, how education can empower their voices, inform their life choices, and spark lasting change.
Through mindfulness practices—quiet moments in between brushstrokes or away from the canvas—I deepen each work’s meditative quality. My paintings are more than images; they are living narratives of healing, cultural pride, and community spirit. I welcome you to invest not only in art, but in shared stories and the promise of lasting impact.
